Phil Hendrie Show Explodes from Coast to Coast

July 19th, 2007 · No Comments

The launching of Talk Radio Network-FM’s The Phil Hendrie Show has been an “astounding success”, according to TRN-FM CEO Mark Masters. Since his launch just two weeks ago, over forty markets have added Phil Hendrie to their late evening lineup, including some of the top radio markets across the U.S. The Phil Hendrie Show has been added in San Francisco, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa, Denver, Riverside, Memphis, Las Vegas, West Palm Beach, Akron, Charleston, Reno, Boise, Augusta, and Bakersfield, to name a few.

In Los Angeles, where the show is based, Phil Hendrie was one of a handful of personalities who was able to achieve #1 ranked status in his daypart for over two years on KFI AM. The show became nationally syndicated in 1996 and was heard on over 100 stations around the country prior to Hendrie taking a brief exit to pursue television and movie projects.

“It’s not surprising so many stations welcomed the return of Phil Hendrie,” says TRN-FM CEO Mark Masters. “Phil is the master of satire and always delivers a pay off, which brings perspective on important issues of the day. He truly is a genius at his art form.”

The re-launch of The Phil Hendrie Show has also allowed Hendrie to incorporate some new elements into the nightly program, tackling issues and breaking news of the day, while still using his creative style and voice characterizations to provide perspective.

Jim P. Pappas, Vice President/General Manager of KTRB-AM 860, San Francisco, says, “Phil Hendrie is the master of radio comedy and satire. We added The Phil Hendrie Show without hesitation. No one else compares.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Program Director Dave Sniff, of 760 KFMB, San Diego, says, “Phil is simply a master at blending humor and issues! The night-time slot is perfect for the ‘theater of the mind’ style of communication he has made so famous. He is an original and extremely unique and when you put his talent against your average talk host, you win!”

Doug Westerman, Program Director of KTLK-FM, Minneapolis says, “Phil’s insight on everyday life is by far one of the most unique in talk radio…”

Jon Volmar, Program Director, 1250 WHNZ in Tampa, says, “We are thrilled to bring Phil Hendrie back to the Tampa market. His style of talk radio is humorous, satirical and very entertaining and will be a great addition to WHNZ. ”

Charlotte Burke, Program Director, News Talk 720 KDWN, Las Vegas says, “Phil could do a show just like other talk hosts do -and he’d be great at it. But that would be like asking Pamela Anderson to grab her floatation device and walk, not run, along the beach.”

John Mountz of Super Talk 99.7 WTN in Nashville, says, “When I found out Phil Hendrie was back, my first thought was how do we get it? I was pleasantly surprised the show is live during the difficult to fill overnight slot. At last, a show that can give my competitor a run for its money. From the listener responses I have gotten so far, it was a great programming move for WTN.”

In Omaha, Neil Nelkin, Program Director of KKAR says, “Phil Hendrie was the perfect addition to the KKAR schedule. A live show during the late night hours: relevant, foreground and outspoken. Response for the first two weeks has been much more than I expected.”

John Starr, General Manager, WBXY, Gainesville, says, “Phil Hendrie is a truly unique and gifted radio personality. We’ve had many listeners rejoice that Phil is back and on our station. He goes well with Mancow.”

In Tucson, Chuck Meyer, KCUB says “As someone who has had the pleasure of working with Phil Hendrie in the past, I have a special appreciation for his talents beyond my enjoyment of his show as a listener. Phil is his own niche. Nobody should go where Phil goes – or should even try.”

Johnnie Walker, Program Director, KROD-AM, El Paso says, “There are few names that generate so much enthusiasm in the radio talk world as Phil Hendrie. Most new talk shows need a killer demo to sell itself to potential markets, but Phil’s name almost sells the show by itself! The excitement in the responses when I mentioned the possibility of getting this show was key in making the call. Not many talk show hosts can generate THIS much excitement about a show.”

Jerry Evans, Owner of KKFT-FM, Reno says, “I chose Phil Hendrie because you can expect the unexpected. There simply isn’t another radio show like it in any radio format.”

Phil Hendrie has been in radio broadcasting for over 30 years and began doing talk radio in 1990. The first Phil Hendrie Show was a comedy talk radio program that became renowned for its unique and controversial guests, who were actually fictional characters created and voiced by Hendrie himself.

Hendrie’s voice has appeared in popular animated features in the past several years, including FOX sitcoms King of the Hill and Futurama, as well as the 2005 cinematic smash-hit Team America: World Police. In 2006, he starred in the NBC sitcom Teachers. He recently starred in the FOX/CBS pilot The Giants of Radio.

The Phil Hendrie Show airs Monday through Friday from 1:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. Eastern/10:00 to 1:00 a.m. Pacific, and is re-fed 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Eastern/ 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Pacific on TRN-FM.
